Past, present and future

At Carpenter & Co, our history forms an important part of our principles. We're proud to remember how the firm originated, even if some of our photo archive takes us all by surprise! Here's a little information on our history:

The past:

Carpenter & Co first arrived on the legal scene in about 1923 as a practice set up by Charles Carpenter from his house in Brambledown Road, Wallington.

In 1955 his son Noel Carpenter qualified as a solicitor and the firm became known as C.E Carpenter & Son. Noel Carpenter practised as a solicitor for over 50 years and helped to develop the practice around the local and business community of Wallington and Carshalton, being very involved in local community activities. The firm has therefore served the local community for many years.

Charles Carpenter died in 1973, not long after the firm acquired its existing offices. The firm then merged with Costertons in 1975 but demerged in 1988 when the firm assumed its present name and the firm's current senior partner David Greenfield joined the partnership.

The present:

Carpenter & Co now has three Partners, David Greenfield, Paul Verlander and Gavin Cooper. David deals with Private Client matters including Wills and Probate, Paul deals with a variety of Civil Litigation Disputes including Employment Law, Debt Collection, Personal Injury Claims and other areas of dispute and Gavin deals with all aspects of Conveyancing both private and commercial. The Business continues to consider mergers with other small Law Firms in the surrounding area in the hope that the variety and extent of the Legal Work which it currently undertakes will increase.

The future:

Carpenter & Co has moved away from Legal Aid and publicly funded work to concentrate on expanding the business for Private and Business clients. We have embraced the opportunity of utilising modern techniques to provide the highest quality service to our clients. Since the start of the new millennium we have advanced the use of IT and digital systems to communicate internally and with our clients.

We have introduced a case management system for most of our areas of work. This enables us to produce letters and inform you of the latest position quickly. All of our departments meet and talk with each other regularly through the internal marketing and networking we encourage. When you are talking to us, if you find you have more than one issue, mention it and we can have someone call you to talk through how we could help.
